I can recall hearing this quote many times throughout my life...
"Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it." Referring to forgetting the struggles of my ancestors...slavery, discrimination etc. However, recently I realized that I think this quote is greatly suited and maybe even more so to our personal lives, struggles, addictions. Afterall, overeating, sugar, carbs etc is an addiction and I think should be treated as such.
My neighbor has said to me on several occasions that he cannot even remember the old Tiare, the big girl and my reply is always, "I never want to forget her. She is me....apart of me. If I should forget her, I may become her again! I never want to forget her." He seems to always be surprised with this statement. However the reality is that we often get comfortable when we lose weight and we seem to forget about the tummyaches, indigestion, tiredness, aches and pains that come with being overweight. We easily allow the old habits to creep back in. We forget that eating 5 cookies means the scale will quite possibly go in the opposite direction of which we want to go. We forget the emotions and struggles of our unhealthy lifestyle, which often allows us to slip right back into that lifestyle.
Not only should we remember all of the negative feelings, poor health, poor treatment that comes along with being overweight, we need to remember how good it feels when we are eating healthy, when we tried it for a week and it worked! How good your body felt and how it boosted your mood from the success of a job well done.
So today, I want to remind you to never forget! Always remember where you have been, how far you have come and the goals you seek!
Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it! Don't repeat the past! Especially if it is filled with struggle, sadness, excess weight, tummyaches and other illness. It's time to move forward and remember!
Have a happy, healthy day!
Tiare.
This is such a great and inspiring post. I was pondering the issue of weight maintenance the other day and I don't want to forget how hard I have had to work to get the pounds off. I have not reached my goal weight yet, but already I am thinking about the importance of focus, consistency and feeling good in my own skin. Thanks for this post!
